Your privacy is important to me. It is my policy to respect your privacy regarding any information I may collect from you across my website, http://www.dylanmcleod.com.au, and other sites I own and operate.

I only ask for personal information when I truly need it to provide a service to you. I collect it by fair and lawful means, with your knowledge and consent. I also let you know why I’m collecting it and how it will be used.

I only retain collected information for as long as necessary to provide you with your requested service. What data I store, I’ll protect within commercially acceptable means to prevent loss and theft, as well as unauthorised access, disclosure, copying, use or modification.

I don’t share any personally identifying information publicly or with third-parties, except when required to by law.

My website may link to external sites that are not operated by me. Please be aware that I have no control over the content and practices of these sites, and cannot accept responsibility or liability for their respective privacy policies.

You are free to refuse my request for your personal information, with the understanding that I may be unable to provide you with some of your desired services.

Your continued use of my website will be regarded as acceptance of my practices around privacy and personal information. If you have any questions about how I handle user data and personal information, feel free to contact me.

Like millions of other website owners, I use Google Analytics on http://www.dylanmcleod.com.au

Google Analytics is a piece of software that grabs data about my visitors (you). It’s something like an advanced server log.

What does Google Analytics record?

  • What website you came from to get here.
  • How long you stay for.
  • What kind of computer you’re using.
  • And quite a bit more.

What do I do with your data?

The tracking information allows me to better understand the kind of people who come to my site and what content they’re reading. This allows me to make better decisions about design and writing.

Occasionally, I will compile aggregate statistics about the number of visitors this site receives and browsers being used. No personally identifying data is included in this type of reporting.

All of my activity falls within the bounds of the Google Analytics Terms of Service.

Want to opt out of tracking?

You can also opt out of Google’s advertising tracking cookie or use a browser plugin to opt out of all Google Analytics tracking software.

I also use Hotjar on this website.

Hotjar is a technology service that helps me better understand visitors experience (e.g. how much time they spend on which pages, which links they choose to click and what users do and don’t like). Hotjar uses cookies and other technologies to collect data on visitors’ behavior and their devices (in particular device's IP address (captured and stored only in anonymized form), device screen size, device type (unique device identifiers), browser information, geographic location (country only) and preferred language used to display the website). Hotjar stores this information in a pseudonymized user profile. Neither Hotjar nor I will ever use this information to identify individual visitors or to match it with further data on an individual visitor. For further details, please see Hotjar’s privacy policy by clicking on this link.

You can opt-out to the creation of a user profile, Hotjar’s storing of data about your usage of my site and Hotjar’s use of tracking cookies on other websites by following this opt-out link.
